In honor of the 100th anniversary of the prestigious Scripps National Spelling Bee, News-O-Matic is proud to announce a new partnership with the Bee. This collaboration aims to celebrate young scholars and strengthen literacy education nationwide.
We have always reinforced students’ vocabulary development through daily current events articles. With editorial support from the experts at the Bee, young readers will now gain greater insight into the value of spelling, learning how the ability to decode unfamiliar words boosts reading fluency and comprehension.
“For 100 years, the Scripps National Spelling Bee has celebrated academic excellence and language mastery," said Corrie Loeffler, executive director of the Scripps National Spelling Bee. “Partnering with News-O-Matic helps us bring even more great education programs to our schools — building on our commitment to literacy and inspiring a love of language for generations to come.”
As part of the centennial celebration, all 243 students competing in the Bee's national competition will receive a free one-year News-O-Matic subscription for their school — giving thousands of students across the United States daily access to age-appropriate news stories that inform, educate and inspire. In a special recognition of academic excellence, the winner of the Bee will be awarded a five-year school-wide subscription to News-O-Matic, providing sustained access to high-quality journalism for kids.
“We’re thrilled to honor these incredible spellers with the gift of daily news written just for them," said Russell Kahn, Chief Content and Education Officer at News-O-Matic. “These students exemplify the love of words, and we hope to fuel that passion by delivering engaging nonfiction content that supports learning, literacy, and curiosity.”
The Scripps National Spelling Bee has long served as a symbol of intellectual achievement and educational aspiration. With this partnership, News-O-Matic and the Bee reaffirm their shared commitment to supporting the next generation of informed and empowered students.
The 2025 Scripps National Spelling Bee will take place May 27–29 in National Harbor, Maryland, with the Finals broadcast live on ION on Thursday, May 29, at 8/7c.
