As the United States turns 250 years old on July 4, 2026, it’s an occasion to celebrate the past. Yet it’s also an opportunity to envision the future. Help dream of what the United States can be on July 4, 2076! After all, you will be able to build the country you want.

The next 50 years are yours to plan. What do you want the United States to be in 2076, and how can you help? As the leaders of our future, it’s in your hands to shape the Nation.
This is more than a contest — it's your chance to speak up about the kind of country you want to live in. We can’t wait to hear your ideas!
CONTEST DETAILS/ESSAY REQUIREMENTS
WHO: This contest is open to all students age 14 or younger who live in one of the 50 U.S. states or Washington, D.C.

WHAT: Students are invited to write an essay describing their vision of the future of the United States. Essays should demonstrate originality, creativity, and clear writing.
​
Entries must be the student’s own original work, written in English, and must not exceed 300 words.
The use of AI to write essays is not permitted. There is no charge to enter, so students can submit as many stories as they’d like!
WHEN: All entries must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. (PT) on Friday, March 20, 2026.
WHY: There will be two winners: one from elementary school (grades K–5) and one from middle school (grades 6–8), as well as two runners-up at each level. Each winner will receive:
